Fit your photo into a new layout
Expand a photo when a portrait needs to become a landscape cover or a wide shot needs more height for a story. AI outpainting can prepare images for social posts, presentation slides and print layouts. You can also add space around a product for a marketplace listing, but review the generated surroundings before publishing.
Extend the background beyond the edges
Upload your image and choose an aspect ratio: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 and four more. Google's Nano Banana 2.1 generates new content outside the edges while keeping the people and objects of the original shot. Add an optional instruction such as “continue the beach” or “add more sky,” and create up to four variants at once. Processing takes 30–60 seconds. Results are saved to your personal library and available to download.
Choose a scene that is easy to continue
A photo with sky, a beach or a simple backdrop is a useful starting point for background extension. Unlike a photo editor, the tool does not require you to clone parts of the scene manually. The added content is generated, so it may not match the real surroundings. Check the edges and regenerate if small details look wrong.
